You may see more and more "clean makeup" brands offer vegan makeup products. But are they the same thing?
Vegan Makeup Is Makeup Free of Animal Products Or Byproducts
Did you know that clean makeup that uses beeswax is not considered vegan? That is because while using beeswax doesn't harm bees, it is still considered an animal byproduct.
Vegan makeup is a lot more challenging to develop. It is simply easier to formulate beauty products with animal products because animal-based ingredients are easier to find and more cost-effective.
There is a misconception that vegan makeup isn't as effective as traditional makeup that uses animal-based ingredients. This simply isn't true. For example, at Mora Cosmetics, our Satin Sheen Multistick uses cocoa seed butter and candelilla wax. Both of these vegan-based ingredients are not only comparable to beeswax, they are also more nourishing to your skin.
What Is Clean Makeup and How Is It Different?
Clean beauty is when makeup contains safe and non-toxic ingredients. This can be natural ingredients, but it also contains synthetic ingredients that are not harmful.
Currently, the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) doesn't have to approve beauty or skincare products before a brand starts selling them. That means it is up to the beauty brands to test their products and can make as many beauty claims as they want. There is no formal definition or benchmark about what makes a cosmetic clean by the FDA.
If there is an issue with a beauty product, a consumer like you can request a recall however, you cannot force a recall.
Reclaiming Our Time
Unfortunately, this means the burden of being informed is on us as consumers. That's why we started Mora Cosmetics. We wanted to offer a clean, vegan, halal makeup alternative because we wanted to take the guesswork out of makeup labels and ingredients.
Let's face it, we are constantly bombarded with beauty products, claims, and advertising. As we get busier and busier in our lives, we simply don't have the time to pore over each and every makeup ingredient.
Wouldn't it be nice to make the makeup brand do that work for you? At Mora Cosmetics, we value your time and see how precious it is. We take the time to carefully craft our formulas with experienced color chemists. We do this so that you can spend your time doing what you love most.
We just know you will love our products.
